With an attempt to bring out the fierceness on the battlefield and eulogize the fearlessness and heroic deeds of soldiers who protected their homeland, The Sacrifice, a film jointly directed by Guan Hu, Guo Fan and Lu Yang and starring Zhang Yi, Wu Jing, Li Jiuxiao and Wei Chen, is scheduled to open on October 23. The MV of the film’s theme song Ode to Heroes has also been released recently. A combination of exquisite singing of prominent singer Tan Weiwei, performances of world-class violinist Lv Siqing and pianist Chen Sa, and vocal accompaniment of the “Heavenly Chorus”, the MV brings in an unforgettable piece of history as the images of the film meet people’s eyes.

To look back on the battle occurring 70 years ago, the production team of The Sacrifice devoted full efforts to recreating a rarely known history from the perspective of an insignificant guy during the times of war. Unlike precedent war movies, the film attaches more emphasis on the perception towards war from an individual’s perspective and control over details of characters so as to create resonance among the audience, apart from demonstrating the huge gap of strength between the two sides of the battle. Only by witnessing the cruelty of the war can we understand the greatness of the sacrifice made by the martyrs. “Actually, our theme is sacrifice. The fact that China was able to negotiate with the U.S. at Panmunjom was not a result of weapons and equipment but of courage and sacrifice. From this perspective, I, therefore, hope that we could convey the essence of our national spirit to the audience”, said Guan Hu.

As the theme song of the film, Ode to Heroes was adapted from the song under the same name of the film Heroic Sons and Daughters. Ms. Liu Yunyun, daughter of the original composer of the song Mr. Liu Chi, served as the supervisor; and renowned music producer Yu Fei, as well as top-notch singer Tan Weiwei, well-known violinist Lv Siqing, pianist Chen Sa, China National Symphony Orchestra, Guoji Shouxi Aiyue Chorus, and leading actors of the film like Zhang Yi, Wu Jing, Li Jiuxiao, Wei Chen, special guest actor Deng Chao and actor Zhang Cheng jointly contributed to the song.

Along with the touching images of soldiers in The Sacrifice, the song alternates the inspiriting parts with lyrical sections, making it a deep tribute to those heroes and martyrs from our times of peace. As a classic song that has maintained broad popularity for dozens of years, Ode to Heroes is also a manifestation of the China spirit that has influenced people from generation to generation, motivating us as the new generation to go forward.
