Return, the MV of eastern fantasy film The YinYang Master directed by Li Weiran and starring Chen Kun, Zhou Xun and Chen Weiting, was released on January 22. The song represents another partnership between the broadly-loved singer Zhou Shen and Yin Yue and Qian Lei, bringing ethereally beautiful-sounding singing as soon as the singers open their mouths. As another successful production of DreamStudios, the song perfectly demonstrates the complicated emotions of the characters in the film.

Echoing to emotional confrontation and conflicts between characters played by Chen Kun and Zhou Xun, the line “once the contract is reached, the heart has a place to return” nicely illustrates the faithful promise between the Servant and his Master in their lifetime. More importantly, the dancer couple of Yang Wentao and Zhang Can, who are known for their art of emotional expression, also perform in the MV to interpret the complicated entanglements, both touching and sorrowful, between Qing Ming and Bai Ni with their excellent pas de deux.

Zhou Shen perfectly conveys the emotional entanglements between Qing Ming and Bai Ni with his “heavenly voice”

Return, the theme song of the film The YingYang Master, is aptly performed by Zhou Shen, one of the most popular and welcomed singers, with an exquisite voice and ethereal singing that aptly tells the conflicts between Qing Ming (played by Chen Kun) and Bai Ni (played by Zhou Xun). The lyric lines of “whoever said that it was a dead end, that is the destined destination of obsession, without fear of disappointment, without feeling hopeless, I am willing to guard for life” perfectly explain the complicated emotional entanglement between the two characters.

Qing Ming and Bai Ni once made a promise to stay together no matter life or death, but the two of them later turn against each other, only to find that they have no way to elevate themselves from solicitude for one another as they always make the other part the “place where heart returns”. The complicated relationship between the two characters seems more implicative and interesting as the song depicts.
